TAKS TIME IS HERE!!

by Sandra Jopling

March 04, 2008

On March 5th, our 7th grade and 8th grade students will be taking their first round of TAKS. Our 7th graders will take Writing and our 8th graders will take Reading. We are asking for your assistance in making this a successful experience for your child.

As many of you may know, cell phones have become a problem during state mandated testing. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has instructed all school districts to develop a policy that will “preserve the security and integrity of the testing program.” In an attempt to adhere to this mandate we are asking parents to not allow students to bring their cell phones to school on testing days. There are no after school activities on testing days so all students will be leaving school after the last bell. If a need arises, your child may use the school phone to call you. Cell phones that are brought to school will be collected and returned after school. If a cell phone is found in a student’s possession during testing, it will be taken up and returned to the parent only. This also applies to other electronic devices such as iPods, mp3s, PSPs, Game Boys, etc. Students are not allowed to use these during testing. Please make sure your child leaves them at home.

We ask you to help your child prepare for testing by also making sure he/she:

- gets plenty of sleep the night before;
- has breakfast on the morning of the test;
- arrives to school on time; and
- understands that you support his/her efforts.
