Special Education Looking Forward To Productive Year

The Lytle ISD Special Education Department is looking forward to a purposeful and productive 2009-2010 school year. Our staff of teachers, paraprofessionals and other service providers is in place. With the support of the school administrators and each campus member, the students that receive special services will continue to work on achieving their goals through mastery of their individual objectives.
There were more than twelve students in the special education program that walked across the stage at graduation in June this year, and those graduates are now in the military, employed, or in post-secondary training or education. We will continue to focus on transition into adulthood and independence for our secondary students so that they can take a meaningful role in our community.
The programs at the Primary and Elementary campuses are designed to assist students as they learn in the least restrictive environment. Specially trained teachers and paraprofessionals work with general education teachers to include special needs students in classroom activities with their peers. Participation in all campus activities is expected for all students.
Special Education is a service, not a place. Students with special needs in the Lytle school district receive support and specialized instruction individually. We continue to follow our mission, “to provide supportive and challenging opportunities for individual successes so that all LYTLE ISD students will become independent and productive members of their communities.”
