TAKS Scores Show Improvements

The 2009 TAKS results are in and Lytle ISD students showed marked improvement in many areas. The reading scores improved to 95% passing in 6th grade, 98% passing in 8th grade and 97 % in 9th grade.
Math scores in several grade levels improved dramatically as well. The 4th grade increased from 73% to 89%, 5th graders score went from 68% to 79% and the 9th grade improved from 46% in 2008 to 72% this year.
Over all, out of the 27 TAKS test taken by our students, we scored 70% or above on 22 of the tests, 80% or above on 15 tests and 90% or above on 6 tests. We have some great students and teachers here in Lytle and the improvement in many of these areas is proof of that.
The final accountability ratings for Lytle ISD and all the campuses will come from the State of Texas in late August after all the summer testing is complete. We will have chances to improve scores in 3rd, 5th and 8th grade reading and 5th and 8th grade math as some students will have another chance to take the exams if they had not yet met expectations in those subjects.
As is the case every year, there are a few weak areas that we will continue to work on to improve. This year there were some difficulties in the math as the 10th grade dropped to 50%. In science the 8th grade dropped to 56%. Our staff has already begun to target these subject areas for improvement with plans for next school year. We will continue to have high expectations for all students in all areas and strive for academic excellence.
We would like to congratulate all the students that have met expectations on all of their TAKS tests and a special round of applause to all those that earned commended performance on one or more of the exams. Have a fun and restful summer. You have earned it. See you in August.
