by Mark Fender, HS Band Director
April 23, 2009
On Wednesday, (April 22) for the first time in 37 years, and for only the second time in school history, the Lytle High School Band celebrated earning a sweepstakes. To qualify for this award the band had to earn a 1st Division in Marching (October), a 1st Division in Concert competition and 1st Division in Sight-Reading.
UIL Concert judge Chuck Young
said “Very well done on a tough program. I really enjoyed
hearing your performance. Keep up the fine work!” Charles
Cabrera, another concert judge said that the “students perform
artistically, with appropriate musical style on all selections.
Students give obvious attention to musical nuances and dynamic
markings… Keep up the good work.”
UIL Sight-Reading judge Fran Badrak said “Very good job today…
This is a well taught band – keep up the good teaching and
learning. Congratulations on a job well done.”
Mr. Fender and Mrs. Robles express their appreciation to the band students, band parents, faculty and administration for all that they have done to reach this goal.
Congratulations to the band for earning the highest possible rating in all three of their contests this year and ending the long wait for Lytle’s second ever Sweepstakes award.
