Lytle ISD Searching for Qualified Teachers

Lytle ISD administrators have attended two job fairs this month in search of interesting and qualified teachers for next year. The job fairs were located at the University of Texas at San Antonio and Education Service Center Region 20. At these job fairs, many districts are represented. This year, the district concentrated on adding more information to the job fair booth. The goal is to make working at Lytle ISD appealing. With the help of the district librarian, Brenda Emley, the district created informational employment folders that were distributed to each candidate. The folders contained information about our district as well as our campuses. Colorful pictures added a great visualization to these candidates about where they would be working. Employment benefits such as the district contribution to the health insurance and sign on bonuses for hard to filled position (Math and Science) were explained. A copy of the 2008-2009 “approved” teacher salary schedule and school calendar were also included in the folders. In addition to the folders, the district created two posters to display on either sides of the district’s booth. One poster explained the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP) program. The district will be implementing TAP district wide next year. The TAP program is a wonderful program that supports teachers and allows them to becoming better teachers. The other poster included information about the district’s demographics as well as the district goals.
This is the time of the year, that the district will receive word from our teachers that they will be moving on to other districts, re-locating or staying home to raise their families. This is the time of the year that the district starts the search for qualified teachers. Through the efforts of attending these job fairs, the district has more opportunities to fill the positions as they become available with great teachers. The district will continue to find more and more ways to retain and recruit qualified personnel.
