Lytle Elementary Participates at UIL Festival

by Kenneth O. Dykes

April 11, 2008

On April 5th, 2008, Lytle elementary students participated in the annual UIL festival along with four other schools; Veterans, Somerset. This year’s hosting site was Veterans elementary in Somerset. I am very proud to announce that our students acquired more places than any of the other schools competing in the festival’s 21 events. We had a total of 68 students place with 18 first place, 14 second place, 9 third place, 13 fourth place, 6 fifth place, and 8 sixth place finishes. These totals surpass the total of 62 places from last year. The coaches and students sacrificed time before and after school to practice. I would like to thank parents for their dedication in bringing their children up to school for the practices. Your support helped the children succeed. Below is a list of the events and how our students did.

There will be changes for next year’s UIL academic meet. It will be a meet not a festival, which means places will be officially counted and an overall winner will be announced. The meet will also be held in the fall, most likely December, not in the spring because of the administration of state assessments. Our district has been realigned for the 2008-2009 school year. As a result, we will be competing with elementary schools from the following districts: Bandera, Carrizo Springs, Devine, Hondo, and Pearsall. These districts compete very well in UIL academics, we are looking forward to the challenge.
