Seasons to Remember

The 2007 – 2008 school year is drawing close to the end and the Pirates have much to celebrate. This year’s Sports Banquet will be held in the Lytle High School cafeteria on May 8th. The celebration will begin with a meal beginning at 6:00 p.m. followed by the Awards Ceremony at 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be on sale in the Athletic Office beginning Wednesday, April 16th. Meal tickets will be $10 for all guests. The Jolly Roger Athletic Association sponsors the Lytle High School Sports Banquet. Volunteers are needed to help with decorations. Contact the Athletic Office if you would like to help.
The year began with District Championships in Cross Country for both the Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls. Not long after that the Volleyball team finished their year with a Bi-District Championship. Not to be outdone, the Varsity Football team followed with a Bi-District Championship as well. Pirate basketball also has lots to celebrate. The Varsity girls captured the Area Championship in a historic season. While the Varsity boys captured a Bi-District Championship and near upset of West Campus in the Area round. Powerlifting celebrated many Regional Qualifiers and one State Qualifier. The spring sports are still underway and we will no doubt have much more to celebrate. So, please join us on May 8th to honor our student-athletes on a great year.
27 AAA District Golf, Tennis, and Track Results
The District golf tournament was held this year on March 30th in
Castroville and April 1st in Pleasanton. Mandy Ferrell was the lone
participant for the Pirates to advance to Regionals. Mandy placed
in the top 10 at the district meet. Congratulations to the Lady
Pirates for their 3rd place finish and congratulations to the Boys
for a fine season.
The District Tennis Tournament was held this year on April 7th and
8th at McFarlin Tennis Center in San Antonio. Advancing to
Regionals this year are Katie Covell – Girls Singles and Anthony
Perkins and Jacob Carrillo – Boys Doubles. Congratulations to the
rest of the Pirate Tennis team for a job well done.
The District Track Meet was held this year on April 3rd and 5th in Pleasanton. The Varsity Girls finished second overall. Advancing to Regionals for the Lady Pirates are: Danielle Ortiz, Gretchen Rebollo, Yvette Villarreal, Macy Chapa, Jodie Buchanan, Katie Covell, Lychelle Rebollo and Kadie Englehart. The Varsity Boys also finished second overall. Advancing to Regionals for the Pirates are: Steve Piazza, Andrew Rendon, Brandon Lacy, Sebastian Benavides, Jesse Perez, Clayton Jopling, Julian Martinez, Shawn Pringle and Jeremi Holmquist. Great job to both track teams!
