LHS Students Earn Title: UIL Sweepstakes Winners

On March 28-29, the Lytle High School UIL academic team earned the title of Sweepstakes winner at the District 27 3A contest held in Pleasanton.

Along with the award winning One Act Play, which performed, "As you Like It" to advance to Area, the following students contributed to the victory after months of hard work and practice:

Sharon Cadena and Vincent Gonzales, 1st place CX debate, District

Nathan Palacios:6th-Calculator Applications, 5th-Computer Applications and Computer Science

Michael Carreon: 2nd-Current Issues, 1st-Lincoln Douglas Debate,1st-Persuasive Speaking

Bobby Flores, 5th-Current Issues1st-Feature Writing, 1st-Headline Writing, and 2nd-News Writing

Michael Rodgriguez: 6th-Current Issues

Carlo Mannino: 1st-Computer Applications, 3rd- Computer Science, 1st- Literary Criticism, 

                       5th Mathematics, 3rd-Number Sense

Kim Owen: 3rd-Computer Applications, 6th-Computer Science

Anthony Castro: 5th-Number Sense

Jordyn Riege: 3rd-Interpretation

Sharon Cadena: 5th-Prose Interpretation

Sean Simons: 1st-Ready Writing

First-Place Teams included:Spelling, Journalism, Speaking, and Literary Criticism

Second-Place Teams included:Current Issues, Computer Science, and Number Sense

Coaches are: Suzanne Casias, Joe Corona, William Emley, Michelle Grajeda, Kenneth Lagleder,     

                     Jill Suarez, Joe Shirtum, and Debra Vickers

A total of 16 students will advance to Regional UIL contest in Kingsville April 11 and 12.
