Results of Joe Marsh Relays Southwest

by Coach Joseph Arguello

March 07, 2008

The varsity boys placed 10th, with a total of 22 points, overall out of 14 schools entered Lytle was the only AAA school entered. Only 1 AAAA school placed higher than Lytle, and the rest were all AAAAA schools.

This was a great experience for the boys to see what the competition is like at the larger schools.
Senior Steve Piazza had a great day, placing in 3 out of 4 events he was entered in. Steve placed 5th in the long jump with a best distance of 20' 5". He also took 2nd place in the 400m dash with a final time fo 51.43. Also, in the 400m dash Clayton Jopling qualified for the finals with a preliminary time of 51.48. We as coaches, decided not to run him in the finals, because it was still early for him, and we were still in the process of working on his endurance.

Clayton and Steve still had enough left for the 4x400m relay, teaming up with Shawn Pringle, and Andrew Rendon. Together these 4 turned in a time of 3:28.09, good enough for 3rd place, falling only to Converse Judson and Converse Wagner. The 4x400m relay team won their heat, but did not run with Judson or Wagner. In my opinion, they would have probably run a better time if they would have run in the same heat as Judson and Wagner.

All other members of the varsity team that day, did an outstanding job competing in their respective events. This was definitely a good wake-up call for our kids, and let them know how much harder they will need to work if they want to make it to REGIONALS AND ON TO STATE!
