Effective January 1, 2008, Senate Bill 9 requires that new hires be fingerprinted prior to being employed in a school district. Consequently, the Human Resources department is working to streamline procedures to support the mandate that the Texas Education Agency acquire national criminal history reports on all newly-hired substitutes and non-certified employees.

The HR department must submit information for applicants being considered for employment to the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). After processing the data, SBEC will e-mail Lytle ISD a document called a Fast Pass, which HR will use to schedule applicants for fingerprinting at an outside location. Lytle ISD will be notified of criminal activity—if any—once an applicant’s information has been processed.

Additionally, current employees will undergo fingerprint processing at a date to be determined by TEA. In accordance with SB 9, all school district employees in Texas must be fingerprinted by Sept. 1, 2011.
