Update on Cafeteria Menu Changes

Thank goodness for e-mail. Years ago I would have received an alert in the mail and by then any product I had would have already been gone. Now with e-mail we know in minutes after the first e-mail is sent out.
I call each campus manager and we do immediate hold on what ever the product is. I have been here 12 years and this is the second time USDA put a hold on a food item.
As some of you know United States Agriculture Department has a hold
on all meats processed from Westland Meat Company. Lytle ISD does
use Commodity Processed Meats, so until I have received in writing
that none of the meat we use is processed by Westland Meat Co. we
will not serve beef. According to USDA the established number is
not on any of our meat items we have in our freezers. All vendors
have sent out product codes and we do not have any of the coded
items. Also we received customer numbers and box codes and we never
received any product from Westland Meat Co.
We are still waiting until all steps have been taken to insure that
not one child is served meat from Westland Meats. There are many
processors all over the United States so, according to USDA the
hold will be on until February 19, 2008. So we will be on hold too.
We removed the beef from the menu and changed it to chicken,
cheese, or turkey.
