Realignment Places Pirates in New District
by Bryan Bippert
February 11, 2008
The Lytle Pirates will be moving from District 27 AAA to District 29 AAA for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 school years. Our district will consist of Bandera, Carrizo Springs, Crystal City, Devine, Hondo, Lytle and Pearsall. Since our move to 3A in 1996, Lytle has shared the same district with all of these teams at one time or another. For more information about realignment you can visit the UIL website at www.uil.utexas.edu/.
Lady Pirate Basketball PERFECT in District
Congratulations to the Lady Pirate basketball team for their 2008 District Championship. The Lady Pirates were a perfect 8 – 0 in 27 AAA district play this year and 24 – 6 overall. The Lady Pirates will draw a bye in the first round of the playoffs and await the winner of the Marion – Bandera Bi-District game. Good luck ladies and congratulations on your PERFECT district finish.
Congratulations to the Lytle Pirate boys’ basketball team for clinching a playoff spot with their win against the Pleasanton Eagles on Tuesday. The Pirates improved to 5 – 1 in district play. With 2 games remaining, the Pirates can grab a share of the District Championship with wins over Somerset and MV. Good Luck guys!
On behalf of the Lytle Athletic program, I would like to thank the Jolly Roger Athletic Association for sponsoring the Brian Walters Memorial Powerlifting Meet on January 26th in the Lytle High School gym. The meet housed 310 lifters and was a huge success. I would also like to thank the many coaches, athletes, and volunteers for their help.
Congratulations to Joseph Allsup, Clayton Jopling and Steve Piazza for their All-State nominations by the Texas Sports Writers Association. Joseph was named 2nd team All State defensive lineman. Clayton was named Honorable Mention All State running back and Steve Piazza was named Honorable Mention All State linebacker.
