Medina Electric Cooperative
Awards: $2500. Eligibility: Senior. Requirements: Parent must be a
member of the cooperative. Must have a 3.0 GPA. Must enroll in an
institution of higher education. A recent photo transcript and
essay are required. Application available in Ms. Melendez’s office.

Best Buy Scholarship
Awards: $1500. Eligibility: Senior. Requirements: Selection based
on students’ volunteer efforts and work experience in addition to
academic achievements; live within 75 miles of a Best Buy Store;
minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale; demonstrate commitment to and
involvement in volunteer community service or work experience; plan
to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an
accredited two- or four-year college, university, or
vocational-technical school in the United States or Puerto Rico no
later than fall 2008. Go to

Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship
Awards: $1500. Eligibility: Seniors Requirements: Pursue a career
in the agriculture field. Scholarships available on line at

Poster Concept Contest
Awards: $1000-$5000. Eligibility: 11th & 12th Grade students.
Requirements: Design a poster (including visuals and tag lines)
that from your perspective encourages students to attend college
and to take the ACT as their college entrance exam. Complete rules

Postmarked by February 16.
Texas Tech Alumni Association Scholarship
Awards: $1000. Eligibility: Senior attending TTU. Requirements:
Selection based on school achievements, extracurricular activities,
individual needs and goals for the future. Transcript and you may
submit up to three recommendation letters. For more information or
application see Ms. Melendez.
Deadline: Received by February 29 (Request transcript by February
25)
Atascosa County Extension Education Association Scholarship:
Award: $200 annually. Eligibility: Must plan to attend an
accredited college/university in the State of Texas and a resident
of Atascosa County. Application can be found in Ms. Melendez’s
office. Deadline March 1
Texas Department of Transportation Scholarship
Awards: up to $3000 a semester. Requirements: Senior Eligibility:
Pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Computer Science,
Management Information Systems or Computer Information Systems.

Myra Hasty & Dr. Pat McLeod Scholarship
Award: $1000. Eligibility: Senior. Requirements: Senior who are
completing at least three credits in two or more courses of career
and technical education; two recommendation letters, academics, and
essay. Application available in Ms. Melendez’s office. Deadline:
Received by March 7 (Request transcript by March 10)
San Antonio Youth Education Scholarships (SA YES)
Awards: Vary. Eligibility: Senior. Requirements: A 90% attendance
rate, transcript; plan to attend a college/university in San
Antonio and designated counties in South Texas. A 200-400 word
essay stating reasons for scholarship consideration, two letters of
recommendation, last federal tax return showing annual household
income not greater than $40,000, current pay stub(s) and copy of
W-2 for all wage earners on tax return and proof of residency.

The Lockheed Martin Scholarship
Awards: Vary. Eligibility: Hispanic Senior. Major: Business,
Engineering or Science. Requirements: Student must be of Hispanic
origin, minimum 3.0 G.P.A., essay, letter of recommendation,
resume, demonstrate financial need, be a US citizen or permanent

Charles, Lela and Mary Slough Foundation Scholarship
Awards: Vary. Eligibility: Senior. Requirements: Must be Texas
resident & U.S. citizen, demonstrate financial need through the
FAFSA – Student Aid Report, class rank, a minimum 3.0 GPA, SAT/ACT
scores, transcript, and essay describing need for this scholarship
and identify any other financial aid which the applicant has been

NAACP Scholarships
Award: $1000-$1500. Eligibility: Requirements: The Agnes Jones
Jackson – Current member of the NAACP, 2.5 GPA, three letters of
recommendation, transcript, essay and financial verification. The
Roy Wilkins Scholarship – NAACP membership and participation is
highly desirable, two letters of recommendation, transcript, copy
of letter of acceptance, financial information. The HBCU
Scholarship – incoming freshman at a Historically Black College or
University, 2.5 GPA, NAACP membership and participation is highly
desirable, based on financial need, three letters of
recommendation, transcript, essay and financial verification. The
Lillian & Samuel Sutton Education Scholarship – Current member
of the NAACP, 2.5 GPA, major in Education, two letters of
recommendation, transcript, essay and financial verification. The
Hubertus Willems Scholarship for Male Students – majoring in
engineering, chemistry, physics, or mathematical sciences, NAACP
membership and participation is highly desirable, 2.5 GPA, two
letters of recommendation, transcript, copy of letter of

Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship
Awards: Vary. Eligibility: Minority Senior. Requirements: Student
must be a minority H.S. senior, U.S. citizen, have a minimum 1000
-SAT or 21-ACT, proven academic achievement, leadership potential
and financial need. Must provide a personal essay and a letter of

Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District
Awards: $500-$1500 Eligibility: Seniors Requirements: Students in
Atascosa, Wilson, Frio and Karnes County. The scholarship is in the
form of an essay that needs to be submitted on a CD. Information

The SallieMae Fund – First in My Family Scholarship
Awards: Vary. Eligibility: Hispanic Senior. Requirements: Student
must be the first in your family to pursue a bachelor’s degree or
the first to pursue an associate’s degree and be of Hispanic
origin, minimum 3.0 G.P.A., essay, letter of recommendation,
resume, demonstrate financial need, be a US citizen or permanent

The SallieMae Fund – Unmet Need Scholarship
Awards: Vary. Eligibility: Senior. Requirements: Gross family
income of $30,000 or less, demonstrate unmet need of at least $1000
after financial aid award package has been determined, 2.5-3.0 GPA,
transcript, copy of complete Student Aid Report (SAR) copy of
financial aid award letter if available. Go to

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Scholarship
Awards: $1000. Eligibility: Senior ASIAN -applicant must have at
least one parent of Asian/Pacific-Islander heritage; African
American Future Achievers - applicant must have at least one parent
of African American or Black Caribbean heritage; HACER - applicant
must have at least one parent of Hispanic heritage; Scholars - ALL
students may apply regardless of race, color, creed, religion,
sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin. Note:
Asian, African American and Hispanic students are welcome to apply
for the RMHC Scholars program provided they have not applied for
one of the three scholarship programs listed above. Requirements:
Must plan to be enrolled in a two or four-year college in the fall
of 2008 anywhere in the United States. Transcript, class rank,
personal statement of your financial need, copy of parents’ W2
Form, unusual circumstances, career goals & potential

Awards: $500-$3000. Eligibility: Senior attending UTSA.
Requirements: Must apply to UTSA to be considered for a

Texas Trial Lawyers Association Scholarship
Awards: $1000 Eligibility: Senior Requirements: Application,
transcript, report card, two letters of recommendation, essay,
resume, personal statement and the name of State Senator. Deadline:

LULAC Rey Feo Scholarship
Awards: $1000. Requirements: Applicant will be considered for the
San Antonio LULAC. Three character references, transcript, 3.5 GPA,
970-SAT or 23-ACT, Personal essay why you desire a LULAC Rey Feo
Scholarship, and one page describing the personal and career goals
your studies are leading to. Scholarship application can be found

Don’t Mess with Texas Scholarship
Awards: $1000-$3000 Eligibility: Senior. Requirements: Choice of
writing two essays, 2 letters of recommendation. Application can be
