Elementary School Hosts Family Night

by JJ Perez, Assistant Principal

December 14, 2007

On November 13th the elementary invited parents to take part in its first of two Family Nights. The program consisted of concessions and four stations that parents rotated through. The stations showcased and informed parents of our Real Math program, Study Island, Math games/facts, and Title I / Student Success Initiative. Families were given “passports” that each station stamped and made the students eligible to win a $25.00 gift card from Walmart. Teachers were given a survey to fill out on how they felt the program went and how it can be improved. Parent surveys are in the process of being sent out to collect similar information as the teacher survey. The turnout was successful and we’re looking forward to our Spring Family Night tentatively scheduled for February 25, 2008.

During our rotation time our librarian Carey Gray is having students read a book of their choice and conduct Pirate Book Appraisals. The students give detailed evaluations and opinions on the setting, conflict, what type of person would like to read the book and conclude the appraisal by giving it a rating of 1-4 Pirates. The well received appraisals are done twice a month and are posted outside of the library for everyone to read.

On December 7th the elementary hosted the first PTO Family Movie Night. The community was invited to watch the newly released movie “Ratatouille” in the elementary gym. Free popcorn and drinks were provided to a large turnout. Stay tuned the PTO may be looking to have another fun Family Movie Night some time in the Spring.

On December 19th the elementary presented its very entertaining annual Christmas Program at the high school auditorium. On behalf of the elementary faculty and staff we wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season.
