LHS Teacher Honored

Ms. Wanda Pagonis was one of 14 educators presented with the prestigious Yellow Rose Award in recognition of their lifetime devotion to teaching.
The awards were presented during the Salute to Education event held Sept 22, 2007 at the Doubletree Hotel in San Antonio. Each honoree received a ceramic medallion, a certificate and a yellow rose. The award, given yearly by the Constance Allen Heritage Guild for Lifetime Learning, recognizes educators from throughout the city. The guild, chartered in 1986, is a non-profit corporation organized by the Past Presidents of the Business and Professional Women's Club of San Antonio. Named after Constance Allen, who dedicated 63 years to education, the guild provides scholarships to assist deserving individuals in furthering their education. Constance Allen was commissioned as a Yellow Rose of Texas by the then governor of Texas.
Wanda Pagonis has been on the faculty of Lytle High School for 17 years. Pagonis has a B.S., M.A. and M. Ed. At Lytle High School, she serves as a senior mentor teacher, the science department chair, the sponsor of the National Honor Society, and serves on the Parent Involvement Committee and Student Recognition Committee. Beside this work, she teaches graduate chemistry and physics classes at Our Lady of the Lake. She is the recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the distinguished Science Teacher Award from Toyota. Pagonis has two children, Dr. Michelle Pagonis, D.C. of Austin Texas and Christopher M. Pagonis of Atascosa, Texas.
