Life Skills Class Meeting Goals

Greetings from Ms. Love’s Class:
This summer was a fast and furious one. All the students had their work cut out for them and then, so did my paraprofessionals and I. In order to meet the I.E.P. goals for our CBVI class which was agreed upon by the ARD committee for each individual student, the students worked at various Community Based Vocational Sites during each session of ESY. Each site consisted of jobs that the students were familiar with, but as an added bonus new skills were introduced over the course of time. Some examples of the jobs are as follows: cutting grass with a push mower, operating a weed eater, scanning items at retail stores with a SKU gun, stocking shelves, applying theft deterrent tags to clothing items, arranging display shelves at a retail store, and variety of tasks on various business and community sites. As we start the new school year, Mrs. Alfaro and I are looking forward to continuing these new skills in the year to come.
A Pirate Pride moment happened during the ESY sessions also, some of our older students were gainfully employed by Sea World of Texas and Ace True Value of Castroville. The student’s employment was a huge success! Kudos to students, parents, employers, and school staff involved, and as we say at the high school “We Are One!”
